Raincoast is looking for a highly organized individual with a love of spreadsheets to join our inventory team. The position requires strong analytical skills, a good eye for detail and the ability to communicate clearly. Raincoast will provide training on its own systems, but the successful applicant will be very comfortable with Excel and Word.
This position requires communication with client publisher staff, customs brokers and carriers, as well as Raincoast staff in sales, marketing, systems, finance and warehouse.
Regular Duties
Inventory control:
- place initial seasonal orders with client publishers based on forecasts provided by the field sales director
- reorder based on sales data
- identify overstocks and communicate with client publishers regarding their disposal
- work with warehouse to implement downsize measures
Database maintenance:
- work with marketing department on new title uploads
- maintain accurate title level data, particularly as availability dates and prices are subject to change
- receive stock into the system
- process stock returns
Research and reporting:
- track shipments of key titles, including time-sensitive titles
- investigate missing shipments
- research discrepancies
- monitor and sign off on customs and freight chargebacks
Vacation backup for other members of the team
Requirements
- Proficiency in Excel (level 2) and Word, with a high level of accuracy
- Some experience with databases
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Related work experience: similar office work or book industry experience
- Ability to work well with others

Reporting to the Director of Field Sales, the Sales and Marketing Assistant is the key contact for materials from our publishers to our reps. In addition the assistant provides administrative support to members of the sales and marketing departments. Main duties are as follows. Others may be assigned from time to time as appropriate.
Materials
• Contact publishers prior to each season with sales kit requirements, catalogue needs and deadlines, specifically requesting materials for all key titles and products.
• Distribute materials to sales representatives, appropriate publicists and members of the marketing team, maintain good records of materials received and distributed and follow up with publishers as necessary to ensure that all required materials are received.
• Order all rep samples and other samples as needed
• Maintain catalogue mailing list and manage seasonal catalogue mailing
Administrative support
• Track department expenditures and maintain FMP purchase order system
• Maintain Better Business Rebate program grids and send quarterly reports to booksellers
• Provide support and share knowledge of Raincoast E-Cat program with sales reps
• Maintain co-op grids for national accounts, independent and mass customers; track and cut purchase orders. Work with the credit department to ensure customers are credited in a timely fashion.
• Maintain an inventory of marketing promotional materials for distribution to reps at book fairs, gift shows and bookstores throughout the year
• Assist in preparations for trade and gift shows and sales conferences
• Provide back up to data analyst in gathering sales data as needed
• Provide sales reports for Sales Reps and sale team when requested. Do monthly summaries for rep sales reports
Skills required
• The successful candidate will be highly organized, detail oriented and will have particularly good written and verbal skills. Candidate must have a proven aptitude for computer work and an ability to work well with other people. Must be able to multi-task, prioritize and work under pressure
• Strong computer skills in MS Office and Adobe Acrobat with excellent skills in Excel

Raincoast Books, based in Richmond, B.C., is seeking a marketing manager to start in April.
Raincoast is the Canadian distributor for 25 English language publishers and we emphasize the role of new technology in our sales and marketing work. We are looking for a creative and organized professional with a wide range of marketing experience who has excellent communication and technical skills.
Our marketing manager works with our graphic designer to develop channel marketing materials, and plans marketing campaigns in conjunction with our VP of Marketing, publicists, and senior sales people. The marketing manager also plays a key role in the development and maintenance of our proprietary digital catalogue application.
There will be some national and international travel involved and the possibility of managing staff.
The successful candidate will possess:
- superior writing and copyediting skills
- project management and scheduling experience
- a basic proficiency in HTML
- a minimum of three years of relevant media, marketing, publishing or senior book retailing experience
The following technical skills will be an asset:
- inDesign and Photoshop experience
- a familiarity with FTP clients
- a familiarity with Filemaker Pro 11
- an understanding of how scripting languages can improve workflow and create shortcuts

Publicist Position at Raincoast

Raincoast Books is looking for a publicist based in either Vancouver or Toronto to cover a twelve-month maternity leave. The contract would start Monday July 26.
The successful candidate will possess superior written and verbal skills, a minimum of an undergraduate degree in a relevant field and a valid driver’s license. Experience with social media, media relations and design and layout software is an asset. The position will also involve the creation of e-newsletters so strong copyediting skills are a must. Traditional publicity aspects of the job will focus on Travel, Health, Business, Memoir and Politics and Current Affairs categories.
Raincoast Books is a national full-service sales and marketing book distributor for over 20 client publishers from across Canada and around the world. Raincoast has offices in Vancouver and Toronto and the successful candidate will work out of our Vancouver head office or from home office in Toronto.
As Publicist, the successful candidate will work with three other publicists and the VP Marketing in organizing national tours and securing print and electronic coverage for authors in Canada and around the world. Job Posting: Designer in Marketing Dept at Raincoast Books

Raincoast Books is looking for a Designer to fill a part-time position in the Marketing Department, working in-house two days a week.
Duties will include designing marketing materials, order forms, ads and point-of-sale promotions; preparing files for print; liaising with printers, suppliers and service bureaus as needed to produce finished products; processing book cover images and interior spreads and distributing them to online partners; preparing image files to be sent to media as requested; creating graphics for eNewsletters and updating the Raincoast website where necessary.
The successful candidate will be proficient in InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Acrobat and Fetch on a Mac. Experience creating graphics for the web and experience with Photoshop Actions are assets. The successful candidate will be creative, resourceful and able to work on a number of projects efficiently to meet deadlines.

Part-time Job Posting: Inventory Coordinator

Raincoast Book Distribution is seeking a highly organized individual to join our inventory team. Part of the sales department, each of our three inventory coordinators is responsible for a distinct group of client publishers. Raincoast sets inventory targets for each client publisher and the coordinator must work within these targets, while ensuring that inventory is available to fill customer orders.
Members of the inventory team work closely with one another, providing backup as necessary during absences or periods of heavy workload.
Inventory coordinators work with other departments, most often the warehouse, finance and sales, and directly with client publishers, carriers and customs brokers, so excellent people skills are imperative. They must also be skilled planners who are able to communicate clearly while demonstrating an understanding of overall priorities.
The position requires strong analytical skills and a great deal of computer work. Raincoast will provide training on its own systems, but the successful applicant will be very comfortable with Excel and Word.
Regular Duties

- Review title sales history and ordering as necessary
- Quarterly downsizes: identify overstocks and communicate with client publishers regarding their disposal, working with warehouse to carry our returns and destroys
- Receive stock into the system
- Track shipments and investigate mis-ships
- Work with and coordinate new titles loads with the marketing department
- Work with the sales department on co-op and/or event titles
- Sign off on customs, freight, and labour charges related to inventory shipments
- Provide vacation backup ordering for our wholesale division, BookExpress
This is a part time position, currently expected to be a minimum of 25 hours per week, spread evenly over 5 days.
