Big Ups for Chicken Big!

by Siobhan
Kids + Picture Books / April 08, 2011

This week the American Booksellers Association announced the winners of the 2011 Indies Choice Book Awards and the E.B. White Read-Aloud Awards, as chosen by booksellers across the country.

We're really excited to see Chicken Big by Keith Graves on the list, winning an E.B. White Read-Aloud Picture Book Honor Award!

Check out the full list of award-winning books on Bookselling This Week.

Here's what people have been squawking, sorry, saying, about Chicken Big...

"This will be a winner for reading aloud - prepare your best chicken sounds." —The Chicago Tribune

"Really, just try not to laugh at the BIG chicken's facial expressions as the story progresses from one crazy fun idea to another." —Satisfaction for Insatiable Readers Blog

"Young children will delight in this zany rendition, in which humorous dialogue is enhanced by the opportunity for adult readers to add a chorus of chicken squawks. Pencil line drawings with muted colors make an exception for the bright yellow main character who makes a bold statement throughout the tale. Like all fables, Chicken Big is at its best when the moral emerges. Regardless of our appearance, we all long to be accepted, and readers will be touched that Chicken Big finds a flock of friends willing to make room for him in the coop." —BookPage
