If you want to make a positive impact on the earth, here are two easy steps to get started:
1. Plant a tree.
2. Read up on the issues.
Actually, make that ONE easy step: this Spring, one tree can be planted for each book you purchase. Just look for books bearing the Eco-Libris sticker at participating locations (see listings at right).
Raincoast Books and booksellers across the country are proud to be working on this project with Eco-Libris, a green business that works with non-profit organizations to help people "balance out" the paper on which their books were printed.
There are many benefits to planting trees - for you, the environment and the communities in which the trees are planted. Here are just a few examples:
• Reduce atmospheric carbon dioxide levels.
• Reduce soil erosion.
• Help decrease the chances for natural disasters such as floods.
• Education for increased awareness to the importance of conserving natural resources.
This project is part of an ongoing effort by Raincoast to work towards being a greener company. We welcome your feedback and suggestions on what our next steps might be: please leave your comments on our blog.
