New Fall Books for Fashion Week

With Toronto Fashion Week wrapping up, and Vancouver Fashion Week coming up soon (November 1-6) I thought it might be a good time to show you some of this Fall's new books on Fashion... plus a few notebooks, notecards and even a fashion card game!

Happy 20th birthday Laurence King!

Well Laurence King the publishing house, not Laurence King the founder himself (I think he's older than 20).

Established in London in 1991, Laurence King Publishing is now recognized as one of the world's leading publishers of books on the creative arts.

Their books are acclaimed for their beautiful design and authoritative text as well as the quality and care taken over their production. They publish books in the fields of art, graphic design, architecture and fashion; just to name a few.

Mark Lamster of Design Observer took up the chance to interview Laurence to hear his thoughts about the state and future of design publishing, and what makes a design book (and book proposal) successful. 

...Even with this distinguished catalog, few Americans are likely to know much about King or his press, as until recently most of his titles were sold in this country by other publishers, who purchased their rights. I got to know him this way, both as a buyer and a seller, when I was an editor at Princeton Architectural Press. We worked on many books together — some winners, some losers — and it was always a pleasure. King is one of the true gentlemen of design publishing, self-deprecating and charming in the classic British manner... ~ Mark Lamster

New Passions

It's not quite the first day of Spring yet, but I'm tired of grey winter weather (and what's this about hurricanes predicted for BC today?!). I am ready for Springtime.

Spring is all about reawakening from our winter slumber, shaking off our grey-sky blues and reigniting our passions. So I was quite pleased to see that Moleskine has created a whole line of videos to showcase their new Passions Journals. Anna Sui

Later this fall, Chronicle Books are publishing the first book to cover the entire scope of fashion icon Anna Sui's 20-year career.

With a shimmering foil-stamped cover and more than 400 photographs, the book celebrates Anna Sui's influence—from her first show that snared the support of supermodels Naomi Campbell, Linda Evangelista, Christy Turlington, and Kate Moss, to the role she's played in making the babydoll dress one of fashion's most iconic silhouettes—and gives fans ran access to the designer's creative design process.
