Who doesn't dream of taking a trip around the world? The sight, the sounds, the tastes, the experiences -- THE COST!!! The last one quickly brings me back to reality every time I start daydreaming about it.

What if you could win a trip for two around the world from everyone's favourite travel publisher Lonely Planet? I know I would go for it!

To celebrate the publication of Lonely Planet's 100 Millionth Guidebook and all of their readers' incredible travel experiences Lonely Planet has launched the 1 Planet, 100 Million Stories Contest.

Go to their site and you can explore a world of travel experiences one photo at a time.

Enter a photo of your own and you win a trip for two around the world or one of 200 Nokia Handsets.

To sweeten the deal Raincoast will have a little contest of our own. Enter your favourite travel experience (or even your dream travel experience) in the comments field. On March 1st we will choose one lucky person to win a Lonely Planet Travel Guide to the destination of their choice!

Happy travels my friends!

For a month last summer I bathed in the rich glow of light, warmth and colour in San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuato state, central Mexico. Mexican history, colonial buildings (still in active use), arts and artists everywhere - it’s a place that casts a magical spell.

The best vacation experience of my life is still my trip to St. Lucia.  The people are so nice and friendly, and the country is not commercialized.  I loved it!

The best vacation experience I ever had was going to Europe completely by myself. I couldn’t keep waiting for others’ schedules to open up, so I just took off. I felt like a real adult wandering through Paris by myself, and treasure those memories as something completely my own.

Just booked flights to South Africa for January 2011. My first trip south of the Equator and I will be taking a Lonely Planet guidebook, whether I win it or not!!

My best vacation was a trip I took by myself to Argentina. The food, the wine, the scenery, the people was fantastic. It was a great reminder of what I can do, what I can figure out and what I can find when I take a risk.

I loved every minute of the trip—even the scary (almost having my bag stolen). Married now, I don’t know if another solo big trip is in my future, but I’ll always treasure the times I went to a tango milonga or confeteria by myself, with the guidance of my trusty Lonely Planet of course! (Thanks for the advice on the purse thing btw)

The best vacation I’ve had was in Palma de Mallorca, off the coast of Spain with my brother. The food, the wine, the old Europe feel and Muslim inspired architecture were amazing. Even though I struggled to speak Spanish with the locals, I had a feeling of home in Mallorca. The quaint and winding European streets filled with bakeries, butcheries and cafes. I’d love to go back!

My passport is currently unmarked, but my dream is to fill it up with stamps from all kinds of interesting and less-traveled places. Places that are green and lush, sun-kissed and surfy, even isolated and chilly! I have always wanted to explore the world—its beauty, its cultures, its cuisines, and I would jump at the chance if I win. Thank you.

I’ve had Iceland on my life list since I was a teenager.  This summer I crossed that item off… CHECK!  My sister and I flew to Reykjavik and experienced the “midnight sun.”  We took in all the touristy sights.  By plane, boat, walking, swimming, skipping… the landscape impressed us.  and yes, Blue Lagoon is totally worth the trip!
