Earth Day Countdown—13 days

by Chelsey
April 09, 2009

Today I soaked the seeds and peat moss and got down to planting my SPROUT YOUR OWN LEAFY WONDERS kit.

It was loads of fun. I was not quite sure how hard to pack the peat moss into the containers, or how lightly to sprinkle the peat over the seeds--I'll have to wait and see how they turn out! Now I'm fretting that they will be left all alone at the Raincoast office over the long weekend. At least the planters are near a bright sunny window.

The book that comes with the kit said that the baby seeds are quiescent--that means that they will essentially stay asleep until the conditions are right for them to wake up. The Sensitive Plant, Polka-dot Plant, and Lamb's Ear seeds all need water and warmth to start growing. I'll be thinking of the wee plants this weekend, but I hope this song does not stay in my head too long. Happy Easter!
